My Approach to Therapy

My approach is founded on my understanding that every person arrives to therapy troubled by their own unique sets of deeply personal life circumstances, as well as circumstances that are nearly universal parts of what make us human. These universally challenging circumstances often include, the reality that life is full of uncertainty; that we all have a need to discover our own identity and purpose, and that we are all responsible for the task of trying to figure out a way to make some sense of the world around us with the time that we have here. I am trained in evidence-based practice and offer a holistic therapeutic approach that provides tailored care to address these concerns and more.

I utilize an integrative approach to treatment which draws from several styles of "depth-oriented" therapy, including existential, humanistic, gestalt, and relational psychodynamic approaches. My approach is also informed by my education and supervision in C. G. Jung’s analytical psychology, and transpersonal psychology. These types of therapy share common beliefs: that each individual's personal experience of the world is unique and valuable, that an individual's psychological symptoms hold deeper underlying meanings and are a product of factors that they are not always directly aware of, and that therapeutic change is a holistic and transformative process that goes beyond symptom reduction (although symptom reduction also occurs). Therefore, our work will involve exploring these issues in detail and uncovering these deeper meanings collaboratively.

Additionally, I am also attentive to the impact of sociocultural factors on psychological concerns. I believe that the social, political, and economic forces which create constraints on clients’ possibilities for creating a meaningful and fulfilling life often contribute significantly to their psychological suffering. My therapeutic approach draws from critical and liberation psychology, and involves exploration of the ways that oppressive power structures impact mental health, as well as the role that culture plays in shaping the context of our everyday lives.

Who I Work With

I work with adults and adolescents suffering from a variety of psychological concerns, including depression, mood disorders such as Bipolar Disorder, anxiety, and personality disorders. I may be a good fit for individuals looking to navigate identity issues, life transitions, spiritual concerns (including psychedelic experiences and integration), and questions of meaning and purpose, as well as to manage stress, and cultivate more meaningful relationships. I also specialize in helping individuals navigate issues of culture, and enjoy working with clients from diverse backgrounds and with traditionally marginalized identities (for instance, Black, Hispanic, and LGBTQ+ individuals).

Frequently Asked Questions

How long should I be in therapy?
The duration of therapy varies for each individual. Some benefits of therapy can be achieved in a relatively short period of time, while deeper, more meaningful change can often take longer. I offer short and long-term options for therapy. We'll work together to determine the best course of treatment for your specific needs.

Should I attend therapy in-person or by telehealth?
In-person and telehealth options are available. I am located in the Baltimore metropolitan area (Harford County, MD), but can see clients anywhere in Maryland via telehealth. We can discuss whether this format best suits your needs and preferences during our initial consultation.

What are your fees?
Individual psychotherapy sessions are $150 per hour. I offer a sliding scale for some clients who may be experiencing financial hardship. Clients who pay at my higher fee level support the mission of keeping psychotherapy affordable for people at all income levels by subsidizing my lower fee work. Please contact me for more detailed information about pricing.

Do you accept insurance?
I am currently in-network with Carefirst Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna, and United Healthcare. If you do not have one of these carriers, and your particular insurance policy has out-of-network benefits, you may be able to submit claims for reimbursement. I am happy to work with clients to assist with the process of reimbursement by providing a superbill for services.

What is your cancellation policy?
I ask for 24-hour notice for session cancellations. Sessions canceled within less than 24 hours will be billed the full session fee. Please note that canceled session fees cannot be reimbursed by insurance.
